How to measure a lawn mowing visit
- Measure the grass only, not the whole lot. Map tools are fine for this.
- Slopes, lots of obstacles and long grass all slow the mower. Raise the minutes for those lawns.
- Use drive time between stops on your route, not from the shop, if the lawn is part of a route.
What this free version leaves out
The mower size you use changes the speed more than anything else. Time your own crew on a few lawns and replace the example speed. It also prices every customer the same way, whatever the season, the access or how the first call went. The full CrewBrain pricing engine takes those into account.
For the full method, read how to price lawn mowing jobs, or see CrewBrain for lawn mowing. To work out what one person-hour really costs you, use the labor burden calculator.
Questions owners ask
How much should I charge to mow a lawn?
Price it from the minutes it takes, what an hour of your crew costs, fuel and your margin, with a minimum per visit. The calculator does the math for your own costs.
How do I price by the acre?
Put the acres in as square feet (1 acre is 43,560 sq ft) and use the speed of the mower you would send.
Why have a minimum charge?
A small lawn still needs the trailer parked, the mower unloaded and loaded again. The minimum makes sure that time is paid for.
